Anthropocene Studies is no longer accepting new applications.
One of the highlights of the Anthropocene Studies programme is having a different lecturer almost every week and for each seminar, with each individual bringing a different perspective to the themes surrounding the Anthropocene. The small group setting created in seminars allowed for the leader’s research to be discussed, as well as critical conversations on close readings of texts and case studies. These discussions always took surprising turns, as the group of students could be coming from academic backgrounds ranging from literature to conservation, and I consistently walked away with new, dynamic understandings of the seminar topic.

PL (April 2021)The Anthropocene is a big concept. This is the course for you if you would like to unpack the multiple dimensions - ethical, social, cultural, economic, political, and geographical - of what the Anthropocene could or should mean to diverse societies, countries, regions and to humanity as a whole. And animals too. The Social Sciences Research Methods Programme (SSRMP) provides a wide breadth of excellent modules in both quantitative and qualitative methods. I particularly appreciate the freedom given in choosing your own topic for the course essay and MPhil dissertation. And the opportunity to attend some Holocene Climates lectures too.
